Call for Papers

GURT invites papers that explore the connections between diversity and linguistic/communicative practices from the perspectives described in the conference theme. We are particularly (although not exclusively) interested in the following topics:

  • The impact of diversity on sociocultural linguistic theory and research methodologies
  • The relationships between diversity and hybridity in linguistic and semiotic practices
  • Challenges and responses to linguistic and cultural diversity in different institutional domains such education, the workplace, community organizations and in non institutional domains such as the family
  • Diversity and the construction/negotiation of identities
  • The use of linguistic and other semiotic resources within new practices involving diverse communities
  • Language policies and diversity issues in the public space
  • Diversity of genres, practices and participation frameworks in mediated communication
  • Diversity and time/space scales

Proposals will be blind reviewed for their originality, quality, and breadth of relevance. In addition, colloquium proposals will be evaluated for the coherence and complementarity of their individual presentations.

Deadline for submitting abstracts: October 15, 2015.

Notification of acceptance: December 15, 2015.

If you are submitting an individual paper or a poster for blind review, please be prepared to copy and paste your proposal into text boxes in our submission interface below. If you are submitting a colloquium for blind review, please be prepared to upload the colloquium proposal in a MS Word (.doc, .docx) file in our submission interface below.

Individual Papers

A 20-minute presentation followed by a 10-minute discussion.

Please submit a 300-word abstract and a 50-word summary for the conference booklet.

Please make sure your submission is properly blinded.

Poster Presentations

Displayed for a 2-hour block of time.

Please submit a 300-word abstract and a 50-word summary for the conference booklet.

Please make sure your submission is properly blinded.


Colloquia

A 2-and-a-half-hour block of time.

The colloquium organizer should upload a proposal in a MS Word (.doc, .docx) file. Please include the following:

  1. A 300-word abstract and a 150-word summary for the conference booklet.
  2. The structure for the colloquium, with time allocated for opening and closing remarks, presentations, discussion, and audience  response.
  3. For each colloquium participant, a 300-word abstract and a 50-word summary for the conference booklet.
